An Antonio Rudiger brace was enough to ensure Chelsea a point at the KP stadium on Saturday against Leicester in the Premier League.
The German defender, making his 100th appearance for the blues, opened the scoring just after half time as he rose above Hamza Choudhury to head the ball down past the feet of Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
Rudiger said: “It was good to take a point because Leicester were pushing and were getting sloppier.
“I was happy we got away with it.”
Harvey Barnes managed to bring The Foxes back level after his deflected shot from a Youri Tielemans pass curled over the head of Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who was making his first Premier League start of the season for Chelsea.
Ben Chillwell then made the most of the Argentinian goalkeeper’s mis-positioning and put Leicester into the lead after a lovely ball through the box from Youri Tielemans once again.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard said: “I thought his [Cabellero] performance was good, he was comfortable with his feet and there wasn’t much he could do with either of the two goals conceded.”
Antonio Rudiger then brought Chelsea level in the 70th minute with a majestic header from the cross of Mason Mount which lobbed over the head of the Leicester goalkeeper.
Despite a late penalty call for VAR after a deflection which appeared to come off the arm of Rudiger, Brendan Rogers’ Leicester continued to cement their place in the top four as well.
The Chelsea defender said: “the ball touched me but it was not my intention, at the end of the day we have VAR now for these decisions so it is none of my business.”
The result means it is the sixth time this season Chelsea have failed to win despite taking the lead in the Premier League.
Chelsea now see themselves seven points above Manchester United who have a game in hand on Frank Lampard’s men.
On Chelsea’s current position, the Chelsea manager said: “we were underdogs at the start of the season and it’s probably the same now.”
